Madekwe comes from a multicultural family. She was born within South London. Her father is a Nigerian-Swiss, while her mother was English. Her family was raised on a south London council estate, and went to The Brit School at age fourteen. It was the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art was where she received the BA in acting. Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress, who was born into an extended family. She was the daughter of Patty and Roy Leggat. Her parents, Roy and Patty along with the four brothers of her, Brett, Todd, and Bram who were also present.
