AllisonAllison Brooks Janney, born on 19 November 1959 in the United States is an American actor. The actress is known for her performance across many types of screen and stage over a three-decade career. Janney was awarded numerous awards, including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. The actress earned seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Janney was also nominated to Two Tony Awards. The actress was raised in Boston and was raised in Dayton, Ohio, Janney received a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art following her graduation from Kenyon College. After a few years of marginal and non-credited television and film appearances Her breakthrough came when she played her role as C. J. Cregg in The West Wing, an NBC political drama The West Wing (1999-2006) and for which she was awarded the award of four Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2014, she was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Margaret Scully on the Showtime period drama Masters of Sex. She was best known for her performance as Bonnie Plunkett.
